SoundDBMeter.com is designed to help users estimate sound levels, learn about decibels, and use practical browser-based audio tools with clear privacy and security expectations.
Because some tools use microphone access, we believe users should understand exactly how microphone input is handled. SoundDBMeter.com processes microphone-based sound analysis locally in your browser. We do not record microphone audio (except a short clip you choose to record in the Microphone Test, which stays in your browser), upload it to our server, store microphone audio, or send it to an external audio-analysis API.
This page explains how we approach data security, browser storage, analytics, microphone permission, and user control.
For a broader explanation of our data practices, please read our Privacy Policy.
Our Security Approach
Our approach is based on data minimization, local processing, and clear user control.
SoundDBMeter.com does not require an account, login, subscription, or contact form to use the main tools and educational resources. This reduces the amount of personal information users need to provide.
For microphone-based tools, the safest audio file is the one we do not create, store, or upload. That is why the online sound meter analyzes microphone input locally in the browser during the active measurement session.
Our security approach focuses on:
- Processing microphone audio locally where the tool runs
- Avoiding audio recording and upload
- Avoiding unnecessary account collection
- Explaining browser permissions clearly
- Limiting storage to practical browser-side settings where needed
- Using analytics only for general website improvement
- Being honest about the limits of browser-based measurement
No website can promise perfect security, but we aim to avoid collecting sensitive information when it is not needed for the tool to work.
Microphone Permission and Audio Processing
SoundDBMeter.com does not access your microphone automatically.
When you use a microphone-based tool, microphone access begins only after you choose to start a measurement. Your browser will show a permission prompt asking whether you want to allow microphone access.
If you allow access, your browser provides a live audio stream to the tool. The tool analyzes that input locally to estimate sound-level behavior. The audio is used only for the active measurement process.
Measurement tools do not save microphone input as an audio recording. We do not create an audio file from your measurement session. We do not upload your microphone audio to SoundDBMeter.com servers.
You can stop the measurement from the tool interface. You can also manage or revoke microphone permission through your browser or device settings.
To learn more about the measurement process, read How SoundDBMeter.com Works.
What We Do Not Do With Audio
SoundDBMeter.com does not use microphone audio for hidden or unrelated purposes.
We do not:
- Record microphone sessions (apart from a Microphone Test clip you choose to record, which stays in your browser)
- Upload microphone audio to our server
- Store microphone audio
- Sell microphone audio
- Use microphone audio for advertising
- Use microphone audio for affiliate tracking
- Send microphone audio to an external audio-analysis API
- Use microphone audio to identify individual users
- Create voiceprints or biometric identity profiles
- Use audio to authenticate a user’s identity
The microphone input is used to provide the sound-level estimate requested by the user.
Tool Results and Browser Storage
Some SoundDBMeter.com tools may save settings or recent results in your browser through localStorage.
This may include information such as:
- Calibration offset
- Recent measurement summaries
- Tool preferences
- Display settings
- Values entered into calculators
localStorage is stored on your device within your browser. It helps the tool remember information when you return using the same browser and device.
The tool scripts contain no code that sends audio or readings to our server. CSV files and report images that some tools offer, such as the Noise Monitor log, are created in your browser and saved directly to your device. Audio files you open in the Frequency Analyzer or the Audio Loudness Meter are decoded and analyzed in your browser and are not uploaded.
Because this information may remain only in your browser, SoundDBMeter.com may not be able to access, export, correct, or delete it from the server side. You can usually remove it by clearing site data for SoundDBMeter.com in your browser settings.
If you switch browsers, clear site data, or use another device, locally stored settings and results may not carry over.
For more information about browser storage, read our Cookies Policy.
Website Hosting and Server Logs
SoundDBMeter.com is hosted through Hostinger.

- Security-related logs
These logs are used for ordinary website operation, security, debugging, and reliability. They are not microphone recordings and do not contain the live audio stream from the sound meter.
Technical logs may be retained for a limited period according to hosting, security, and operational needs.

SoundDBMeter.com uses Google Analytics 4 to understand general website usage and improve the site.
Google Analytics may process information such as:
- Pages visited

Security Limits
We design SoundDBMeter.com to minimize unnecessary data handling, but there are still limits users should understand.
Your browser, device, operating system, extensions, network, and security settings may affect your privacy and security. SoundDBMeter.com cannot control every part of your local environment.
For example:
- Browser permissions are managed by your browser
localStorageis stored on your device- Shared devices may expose browser-stored information to other users
- Browser extensions may affect page behavior
- Outdated browsers may have security weaknesses
- Network-level services may process ordinary browsing data
If you use a shared or public device, consider clearing site data after using tools that save local results or preferences.
Measurement Data and Compliance Limits
SoundDBMeter.com’s data-security design does not make its sound readings certified or compliance-grade.
The sound meter provides estimated sound-level readings based on browser microphone input. Results can vary by microphone, device, browser processing, distance, room reflections, background noise, and calibration.
Do not use SoundDBMeter.com as the only basis for:
- Workplace noise compliance
- OSHA or NIOSH reporting
- Legal noise disputes
- Apartment complaint proof
- Medical or hearing diagnosis
- Insurance claims
- Product certification
- Professional acoustic reports
When certified accuracy is required, use a calibrated professional sound level meter (IEC 61672 Class 1 or Class 2) and qualified expertise.
For more information, read our Disclaimer and Online Decibel Meter Accuracy.
